WHAT IS IT?
Here's the Wikipedia definition:

American Ninja Warrior (sometimes abbreviated as ANW) is an American sports entertainment competition that is a spin-off of the Japanese television series Sasuke. It features hundreds of competitors attempting to complete a series of obstacle courses of increasing difficulty, trying to make it to the national finals on the Las Vegas Strip, in hopes of becoming an "American Ninja Warrior".

That's the classic version of ANW that's basically being taken as inspiration for a player plot that'll be co-run by myself (Dana, player of Baren Kumou on this journal and Anastasia @ constellates) and Alex (player of Carmen Sandiego @ doitrockapella and Kurama @ roseblooms)! It's a series of mistakes waiting to happen because who doesn't want to try out a bunch of athletic stuff and then slam facefirst into water?

WHAT'S THE STRUCTURE?

For the sake of CR building and making this more interactive, there will be two ways that you can run through the Ninja Warrior Course! There will be two sets of sign-ups so people can slam into it either Solo or Team-Style. Solo's self-explanatory whereas the teams can be made up of three to five people that will try to complete a whole course piggybacking off each other! You can sign up for both Solo and Team-Style but please know that you cannot double-up on rewards (i.e. the Retrospec item or RNG prizes). Team-Style is based off of The Try Guys Run of ANW in case you need more things to watch, fingerguns. Feel free to sign up with a team or if you don't have a team in mind and are willing to throw your fate to the wind, we can RNG teams too!

To answer a question in the FAQ, if you're interested in signing up with two characters but can't find a third, simply make a note in your RNG sign-up that you'd like to be paired with someone and we'll help get you a team!

SIGN-UPS: Full Team | RNG Team | Solo

The list of rules are as follows:

★ The fastest time will determine who will be the winner of American Ninja Warrior. Ideally, we'd love to have prize bundles from local businesses/donors for the winners, but more on that in a bit! Ultimately winners will be RNGed.

★ Course completion by any character/team at all will earn a 10-20 point item from Retrospec! While we aren't expecting you to thread out an entire course run (though of course you're free to?!) the activity requirement for this will be at least 5 comments from you on the main competition log that you can link to the mods to cash in your regain. A note from the mods: These comments must be on a finished thread or show action toward completing the thread and demonstrate active participation in the course. For solo runners, we will have interactive prompts that will still allow for runners to interact with each other/the audience that will count as moving forward in the course. ICly, no one will know about these items ahead of time or be able to make the connection to the event.

★ Powers/Skills/Supernatural Abilities/Magic is not allowed for the course! Any use of powers determined by the judges (Carmen, Baren, or anyone who wanders up to the commentator booth) will result in a penalty. This doesn't mean your characters can't risk it for the biscuit, though.

★ Penalties will sometimes make sense and be completely fair (i.e. in the use of powers, a 10 second time infraction will be added). Other times, penalties will make no sense whatsoever and seemingly be pulled out of a hat (i.e. your shirt doesn't match your shoes, so now you're assigned to carry this garden gnome throughout the course or your new uniform includes these shorts). This is to mostly add a level of difficulty for characters who have gotten powers. Also comedy. It's at the players' discretion so play with this as you please! A list of possible nonsense penalties will be provided at the log.

★ Given the nature of all these overskilled superfreaks running around Recollé the obstacles in the competition log will also be randomly amped up to 11 because variety is the spice of life. For example: The Warped Wall but also you have to dodge getting hit by a souvenir Cameron Sandiego t-shirt fired by a t-shirt cannon. That said, players who have yet to regain powers can add these additional difficulties a their discretion! We're still trying to make it rated E for Everyone.

★ In addition to the above, if there's a type of obstacle you'd like to have your character face to recreate a type of scenario to canon for a regain, feel free to leave a request/suggestion in the contact top-level and we'll do our best to accommodate your request!

★ Team-Style Only: Each member of the team gets 3 lives! So you can only stop using them to carry you through after they've gotten water dunked at least 3 times. For the less super athletically inclined characters, you can still participate and have a good time - we promise!

★ Solo-Style Only: You only get one shot, do not miss your chance to blow. This opportunity is once in a lifetime, yo.

OTHER WAYS TO PARTICIPATE?

Not the running, sweating, slapstick comedy type? That's okay - you're still more than welcome to find ways to participate! We'll also be needing a few other types of people on site -

Medics - self-explanatory I hope! The obstacles aren't meant to cause harm obviously and ideally no one will feel the pain of anything worse than a sprained ankle, but healers or people with first aid knowledge are most certainly welcome!

Sponsors - Carmen Sandiego's take on this is that she wants to also give a bit to charity, unlike Baren who is strictly engaging for hilarity. If anyone with money to throw around wants to sponsor teams and effectively "join" them without running the course, they're free to! Please make mascots for your dinky little ninja teams.

Staff - Just want to make a buck in November? We could always use additional staff to help put together the event, whether you want to work on constructing the course itself, sign up to follow Carmen and Baren on their ideas and do random tasks like finding unicorn masks or learning how to operate a t-shirt cannon, and generally just getting involved and going "but why".

Businesses - As mentioned before, it'd be great to put together gift bundles for ninja warrior winners through RNG! Promote your IC business with donations whether that's coupons to free ice cream scoops or a complimentary pair of rocket roller skates, entrepreneur your heart out. Whatever's donated will be put into packages and given out to the winning team and winning solo contestant. If we have enough, 2nd and 3rd place might be able to get goodies too!

WHAT'S THE PLAN?

An IC Network Announcement will go up November 4th to a ) introduce the event b ) act as an open mingle so people can slam into each other to make teams and c ) invite sponsors/staff/etc if people want to make some $$$ cash money in November.

An IC Training Log will go up November 11th that will act as a catch-all for ninja warrior training before the competition! The structure itself will be built ahead of time and Carmen Sandiego has an obstacle course in her backyard so do your team-building there! Penalties don't apply in the training log and some obstacles will be lovingly customized during the actual competition, so use this playground to your heart's content.

The IC Competition Log will go up November 24th and all RNGed winners will be announced. This is also where the comments should go to cash in your 10-20 point prize from Retrospec - comments on the training log don't count so please be mindful. This is the real deal, folks! Penalties will be live for this log, a commentator's booth will open up in the prompts, and there will be prompts for both participants and audience members.

okay, biggest question is, with regards to powers, how does that impact characters with super strength (since there's quite a few of us)

Is there an IC age restriction? I can't imagine people letting somewhat tiny minors run around these obstacle courses no matter how much sportball they play

I have a question actually that just occurred to me! We spoke to you guys about a 10-20 point item for teams that complete their threads, but what would your suggestion be for solo runners to get their own five comments/be eligible for this? Do you have further suggestions of what they could do instead? (We're happy to think of something ourselves but we're interested in what you might come up with since we like to be mostly hands-off for player plots!)

Definitely interested in signing Matt up since he's about to regain his acrobatic/parkour skills. As far as special powers go, his let him sense his surroundings and thus "see." Otherwise he's blind. He doesn't float or anything like that. As far as cheating powers he has better balance than other people and might hear the mechanics in the obstacle course if there are moving parts but otherwise it would likely blend in with the acrobatic abilities.
Any idea how it would be possible for him to still participate? Like... could he compete under a different name and hide his face? (Actually might be a good idea anyway considering his condition and hiding powers from the non app users watching.) Would the judges be okay knowing full well that the guy running the course is using echolocation to find his way through?
