PLOT POST - January Welcome to our January plotting post! Please feel free to comment to these posts with your character's plans for the month or with what you would like to do for the month, and feel free to discuss those plans with everyone else! Here is the mod questions thread! MOD BULLETIN BOARD -First and foremost, we would like to announce that starting today, plot clues may not be bought! For January and February, due to plot reasons, plot clues will not be able to be purchased by players. These clues will reopen in March. Please keep in mind when purchasing a plot clue we do ask that players have a specific idea in mind of what they would like to look into (i.e. it is harder for us to create a clue that is "I want to explore an NPC area and see what I can find!" versus "I want to check out the waffle house and see if there are any remnants of Retrospec at all since the mailbox is there.") -Starting in 2018, we have altered our hiatus rules just a slight bit! Beginning this month, all hiatuses going forward must be a total of 14 days or more in the month you are calling hiatus to be considered exempt from AC. Due to the high volume of players/characters in-game, along with the amount of activity generated per month and the opportunities for freebie memories, we feel that even 20 days in the month is enough to make AC for characters. Please note: nothing else about our hiatus rules have changed. If your hiatus is more than 14 days but is split between two months, we will still need AC for at least one of these months. -We will have an opportunity for a monthly freebie every month going forward! However, we would like to clarify that all freebie regains must be applied for before the end of the AC period! We do not accept freebies beyond this barring specific circumstances. -Additionally, please remember there is no limit to how many regains you can earn in a month! Though you need one memory regain for your AC, you're free to claim as many as allotted for the month so you have time to pick and choose which one to link for AC. -While freebies can be submitted at any point in the month, we would like to remind players that per the regains guide, we do ask that the last tag from you on a thread submitted for regular memory regains be no older than 14 days. -We also ask that players do not trigger their own memories prior to clearing things with us! It's part of the game mechanic for regains to be done the way that they are, so this means we ask players not to have their characters feel memories coming on, etc. -Please be sure to keep your registries up to date with both memories and abilities! A good habit to get into is updating your registry as soon as the notification from us is received. This not only helps you remember what your character already knows, but it also helps us so that we can judge future regains accordingly based on what your character has already obtained. -We would like to use this time to provide a friendly reminder to please use your character tags to tag yourself on posts and logs! This helps keep things organized not only for us but for your gamemates as well. In addition, if there is an error with your character tag or you need us to change anything, please let us know. IMPORTANT DATES 1st Retrospec Post 9PM EST 3rd Event Log 9PM EST 8th Classes for all Recollé schools begin again. 11th AU Workshop 18th Reserves/TDM 25th Applications Open 31st AC Due see our calendar for a look at upcoming dates this month and further! WORLD CHANGES • Currently as of this weekend, grains, fruits/veggies, meats, and dairy/other drinks have been regained taste-wise! We have one more tier to meet and status can be found on the world regains page. Be sure to check out our world changes page over here and our world regains page to track all changes. Players are free to buy back certain aspects of their canon to help impact and change the world as well, though we may delay the installment of some features for plot purposes. Of note: players are allowed to help contribute to buying world changes not from their own canon. Players may donate up to 100 points to another player's cause. When donating points to a canon buyback, please put them on the same world change page here! Please note, these are only for world changes and not items/powers/etc. EVENTS Happy 2018, Recollé! Did you have a nice holiday? Good thing the taste of meat came back just in time for your fancy Christmas dinners. The new year is looking brighter than ever... ...isn't it? Maybe not quiet. Starting January 3rd, a large dome-like structure will overtake the entire city of Recollé with the intent of isolating the city and its energy readings. While the sun will still be shining and providing some much-needed vitamin D to the city, there will be nothing but darkness until February 1st as the Retrospec team works on a greater problem. In the meantime, characters may be able to utilize different means to create new light sources. Street lamps will be lit and electricity will still work, but citizens may find that they'll have to get creative as they make their way through their every day lives. In addition, the blockades in front of the old subway system will give way at the beginning of the month and open several tunnel routes for exploration. While it's unknown where the tunnels go or what characters may find, nothing is stopping them from exploring different routes that are open, taking expedition teams down underground, and mapping out new city lines. Please be sure to read this month's event log for more details! Of note: there will be a few small player plots open for volunteers that you guys can get involved in (not mod-run and game-wide, simply mod-approved) so be sure to be on the lookout for those as well. Finally: we would like to announce that February will be our next big plot month similar to August's event! We have taken a lot of your feedback from August to heart and have created a new set of circumstances and information to work with for the next month-long plot-jump. This information will go up in an OOC post on January 25th (the same day apps open as to allow new players/characters a chance to jump in, too.) FREEBIE -This month's freebie will require one thread from the mod-posted Restrospec post on the 1st featuring at least ten comments from you. As usual, this regain should be turned into our regains request post with "January Freebie" and the qualifying thread link in the explanation section! As notated above, this freebie will not qualify past January. -For your reference, check out the plot clues/finds page found here! This is all for OOC knowledge, though characters have been spreading the information ICly as well. As of this post, this plot page is up to date. -Additionally, if you haven't yet be sure to check out the regains guide to help outline what kind of triggers will work for obtaining regains and memories in-game. Okay, hello and happy new year everyone!


I have a player plot that I'll be running this month for Penelope/Penelo. She is going to be regaining Mateus the Corrupt, the first of her Esper style summoned monsters from Final Fantasy XII. For those who are not canon familiar, the Espers are demonic creatures that rose up against the gods of Ivalice and were cursed to wander the world, and to serve humans that were strong enough to defeat them. In Recolle, Penelope has not defeated Mateus, and that means it will not be under her control until she can. It'll still be connected to her in a way, however. This means that it is going to flee as soon as it is summoned to seek a way to kill Penelope and break the bond. To this end, it is going to head into Recolle Woods to find a place to hide and come up with a plan.

Along the way and for a few days after the plot begins, Mateus will do three things. The first is attempt to recruit allies that it thinks will help it, and it will specifically approach people with darkness in their hearts. It'll ask them to help it fight against Penelope and try and get them to bring her to it. The second is going to be to attack people who get in it's way, both as a means to attract Penelope's attention and force her to act, as well as simply because it can. Penelope's friends and CR may make particularly tempting targets. Finally, it will also offer deals, promising power and answers. This is not something it will ever be able to deliver on, but it'll ask for things it thinks will be able to help it perform a dark ritual of sorts.

There will be a final confrontation and Penelope will eventually gain control over the renegade Esper, and that confrontation will be closed however any other part of this plot is totally open. Some notes: Mateus will not be killing characters during this plot, as it is aiming to make sure that there are witnesses to tell Pen. Any deals made will not actually occur as the creature is lying. It cannot actually provide anything it promises but it is good at manipulating human belief. And players that fight it cannot kill it. It will retreat if it starts to lose. I expect this plot to start January 12th and run until the 14th pending mod approval of the dates.

How would you define "darkness"? Deeply negative feelings or immorality or?
Minato is Pen's friend, so he'd hesitate on attacking her, but if Mateus presents a logical reason/lie as to why he should fight Pen, he is very easily swayed, esp if promised answers to things.

Generally it'll seek out immoral people, but people that are deeply negative it might attempt it. I'm generally going to leave that open to players, to give folks options to play with.

What would you like to do with this? Do you want him to have that moment with Pen, or pivot away from Mateus?

Sanji's got pleeeenty of darkness in his heart, that's for sure, though given Pen is one of the few people he gives a shit about in the city, negotiations would immediately tank. So I'm down for a scuffle and then Sanji immediately running off to tattle.

Darkness, huh? Well. Yuu is desperate and reckless enough in canon to make a contract with a demon. So. I mean, depending on what the deal is going, with Mateus, Yuu might be swayed? Not that he is likely to attempt to actually hurt Pen or anyone else because of this but still.

Ooooh, this is interesting. Yu is going to have ... a LOT of darkness in his heart thanks to everything that's going on, but he knows Penelope and he'd absolutely never do anything that could lead to her getting hurt. However, he might try to dupe Mateus into believing he'll help, so he can get away without a fight and warn Penelope. Thoughts?

odasaku sure is going to start having some darkness in his heart now that he's remembering his very shitty past...including his desire for revenge at the cost of his own life...and when he remembers that he's an assassin he'll definitely feel very troubled, which is something that mateus could probably take advantadge of.

I feel like Hime would probably make a decent target, especially considering how Pen helped protect her from her hollowfied brother. And Akira/Light could definitely fit the bill for darkness or deals...assuming it's something that Mateus would be able to see before Akira has a full understanding of what he's done before.

Yo, I'm down for this and Edgeworth potentially being attacked. At his current state I don't think he has enough darkness in his heart and he's not going to make a deal with a weird monster.

This might make him consider going back to judo to better himself, oops. Since he threw himself into ice skating and all.

1) PERSONA 5 SPOILERS START HERE. ann...sort of has darkness in her heart, deep deep down. she holds resentment towards kamoshida for what he did to her and shiho, and the whole shiho ordeal gives her nightmares. so...as genki girl as ann is, she still has that negativity that she can't quite get rid of, if this counts! of course ann will vehemently refuse to join mateus, as penelope is her friend. WHIIICH LEADS ME TO MY SECOND OPTION...

2) ann could also just get attacked without being recruited! i think she and penelope can be considered friends? :|a

Soleil is going to run right in and play hero now that she's gotten some things back and more importantly if someone is going to get hurt, especially anyone she knows.

The closest thing to darkness Soleil has in her is her frustration with her future/family life here and feeling like she can't protect anyone with all these supernatural things going on. But uh otherwise she's as much sunshine as she looks.

If it's okay with you, the Howard/Lovecraft player and I would like to have both our characters in one thread. So Mateus coming across the two of them at once. Sakura absolutely has darkness in her heart, same as Howard, and would be tempted by the promise of a deal, especially if it involved Mateus promising her salvation from her terrible memories.

Ultimately she'd turn him down since she's got way too many people who would be disappointed in her. Mateus would only get Howard in the deal. And Sakura can just get... smacked aside or run away, whichever is easiest. She has none of her powers currently so definitely isn't gonna last in a fight.

BUT YES just wanted to clear that with you, having a three-way thread, if that's cool!

AX THIS PLAYER PLOT IS SO GOOD. i've been wanting to pursue more cr with baren and pen again since it dropped off after the summer also? if you've still got room (i don't want to overload you since i know you've got a lot of responses!) Baren having darkness in his heart could trigger some memories for him too.

also idk if it'd be of any use to you but Baren actually just regained the Kumou Shrine (it's an old decrepit shrine that's dedicated to another creature of chaos and corruption from his own canon) that's popped up in the forest if you want a specific place for Mateus to be at?? jUST A THOUGHT

Lucy already has a devil on her back in canon, so she could get a regain from this immediately if Mateus picks at her misanthropy and/or offers her a way to get rid of people she doesn't like. It'll have a bit more of an uphill struggle, though, since AU!Lucy has a much better support system and isn't in the middle of a mental breakdown, but Lucy's basically one of the examples under the dictionary definitions of negativity and questionable morality.

Or she'll start mumbling to an illusory shoulder devil that isn't entirely there mid-conversation with Mephistopheles Mateus. The DNA Voice has no manners.

I wasn't expecting this many responses, and because of that I will not be taking on any more threads for this plot. I apologize for that, but I am not going to be able to manage more since I will be threading all of these alone and I want to give these threads the attention that they deserve.

I sincerely apologize for this, but I know my limits and I don't want to bite off more than I can chew. There will potentially be other Esper related plots in the future and I will make accommodations for players that missed this one.

If you have already discussed a thread with me and have not replied to this post, then we are good!

Dropping comment in that Zack will be participating in the plot! More than likely being a target for attack. He's got darkness in his heart but I don't think enough to be manipulated.

We'd discussed this on plurk, but I would love Mateus to approach Dante given how much darkness he's got in his heart. (Joke's on Mateus though; he controls it, not the other way around!!) I'm good with however you want this to go down, whether it's just Mateus trying to sway Dante to its side and Dante rebuffing it/fighting and then chasing after it (and losing it probs, since you've got your last encounter planned out?) or it actually managing to latch onto one of his insecurities and promising to help, or any other option you think would be fun? :) Since this is your plot, I'm up for whatever will be most fun to play out with their CR!
