FEBRUARY PLOT INFORMATION
Hi guys! As some of you may have noticed on the calendar, we are excited to talk about February's events with everyone in celebration of the game's one year anniversary. Please check out everything under the fancy cut here for more information!
As many of you are familiar with or may have heard about, we hosted a fairly big event back in August! You can read some of the logs from this event by checking out the team events tag!
We took all of your feedback into consideration from the feedback post in August and we've consolidated everything into a revised version of events. We're hoping to make this round of events even better than the last with maximized play.
What's changing?
-Players who sign up will not be separated from half the game for this course of events! Devices will work for communication and there will be ways to stay in touch with your CR and the rest of the game.
-We will be taking timezones, player speeds/styles and preferences further into account! We hope to sort you guys in a better manner with RNG and hand selections (more described below) in order to make sure people get to play with others.
-Higher rewards! We know: it seemed like a lot of work to cram thirty comments in 3 weeks and solve three objectives for one memory. The rewards for participants will be a bit higher though the stakes will also be raised! (More described below.)
-Information will be provided at the start of objectives to cut down on time going back and forth with questions. We hope to provide you with a more loose guideline for creativity and threading rather than having us provide "one true answer" to things.
So now...the good stuff.
On February 3rd, anyone who OOCly signs up for this event will be contacted by a brand new NPC. This will be handwaved, but the NPC will make appearances and be available at certain points.
This NPC will have reached out to your character to ask them to participate in a brand new initiative, the Recollé Restoration Initiative. This NPC will either simply ask your character or bribe them with a promise of rewards, whichever would get your character to cooperate. As this is ICly voluntary as well, the NPC will not take anyone who doesn't want to actively help.
Characters will ICly be allowed to bail permanently should they decide to leave their assignments, though full rewards will not be granted to those who leave a volunteer-based job. Characters may have the opportunity to return to the city on occasion dependent on progress and their assignments, though much like August, characters who are not offered the opportunity to volunteer (i.e. people who didn’t sign up) will not be able to explore the event areas at this time. Additionally like August, characters who are signed up will not be able to enter each other's areas at this time. However, all members of Retrospec will be able to communicate with one another.
Volunteers will be recruited and provided an assignment and it is up to them to coordinate with other volunteers. Volunteers will also be provided with a flare gun. If a character hits their Retrospec-provided flare gun and the NPC sees fit to respond, a portal will open up and characters can teleport safely back to the city once a day. (i.e. if they’re in danger of dying or if they’ve completed their missions or they need something from the city to complete their missions. Some objectives will require characters not to leave.)
Timeframe
ICly, the characters will be told that the deadlines for these objectives is one month (the entirety of February and bleeding into March, 2-3-18 to 3-3-18. Players may take as little or as long as they need in this month-timeframe to complete their objectives.
Rewards
Players who complete these objectives will be granted two free memories (based on scale just like normal freebies and based on participation), and one 10-20 point item. If you do not have a 20 point item you'd like to obtain, you are free to collect the 20 points to go toward your point bank for later (just let us know!)
Requirements
To be eligible for the freebies and the item, players must supply at least 30 comments spread over the three objectives per group (minimum of 5 comments per objective!) with at least three members of your groups. You will not be eligible if you do not participate in all three objectives somehow, and you will not be eligible if you only stick with your preferred partner!
Partner? Teams?
For the group portion of February's events, we will be splitting volunteers into four groups! You may select one character you would like to to be grouped with, but the rest of the members of your group may be solely your CR, solely strangers, or a fine mixture of both!
For partners, players must make sure their forms match each other. For instance, Player A would write down Character B on their form, while Player B would write down Character A. We would not allow for Player A to write down Character B and Player B to write down Character C.
Please keep in mind that while you are selecting these partners OOCly, they will not be picked by your characters ICly! This is up to the NPC. More information about this mechanic will be available at the start of the event.
Note: If you sign up solo and would like to be partnered with someone from your group once sign-ups close, please let us know and we will put you in connection with other members of your group who are partnerless. You can then sign up to be partners, but again, this is all entirely optional. The mechanics tied into the partner system will not effect solo players, but solo players will not miss out on the main events of these logs.
While we are not doing an entire RNG for who will go to what area, we will be dividing players into four groups after sign-ups have closed. There will be varying levels of difficulties for these four groups and we ask players to pick the level they feel is most suited for them. Please note: while we will try to sort everyone into the difficulty that they sign up for, it is possible that some players will be rearranged to another group to prevent an imbalance in group sizes. This will not be first come first serve! This is simply to give us an idea of what you as players would like to do challenge-wise.
Difficulty levels
We have split these four groups and objectives up based on level and difficulty of skill on a scale of 1-4 in which 1 is the easiest and 4 is the hardest.
1.) Basic puzzles and zero creature battles! These will be more like fetch-quest and negotiation type-threads while exploring the area with an emphasis on teamwork and teambuilding, and this means that all victories and consequences will be shared as a team.
2.) A little more difficulty with puzzles that utilizes the area and trickier mechanics. This will also include monster battles at a relatively basic level of combat for those who have combat skills. These will require a little more teamwork and also require more puzzle-solving than some areas.
3.) Medium difficulty with puzzles and objectives, this will require some creative thinking and splitting tasks among team members. There will be harder puzzles and bigger tasks to undertake. There may be some larger monsters but they will be group-based battles if anything, though smaller monsters and creatures will exist for individuals that requires higher combat. There may also be some elements of a DND style of gameplay where your choices may impact the future.
4.) High difficulty with objectives that require players to finish each objective before moving on to the next. These will be combat-heavy, deep exploration, and push characters with certain objectives. There will also be elements of a DND style gameplay which means character choice is very important in each step!

Wait, why can I only sign up one character? Last time we could do two.
The main reason for this decision is that last time we were running eight small groups which allowed for an even balance and overflow for players. However, this time we are only running four and so to be fair to all players and to ensure groups are given the proper attention for these missions, we're capping at one character per player.
However, more information regarding this decision will come to light in March's plotting post!
Okay, well, what if I don't want to participate in this?
Totally cool! We will be proceeding with a February event log as usual and those who sign up may participate in these events as well should they complete their assignments.
Characters who are not signed up will have plenty to do along-side those who are running a mission with the RRI and while it will not be as intensive as a group sign-up with objectives, we hope to keep players and characters busy.
Will those players get rewards?
Yes, in fact! Characters who participate in the main event log that ties into the four separate group logs will have a chance to earn rewards as well.
Requirements: 15 comments spread across at least two threads, minimum of five comments each! If these threads are with people your character has threaded with before, you will be eligible for one free memory. If at least one of these threads is with someone you haven't threaded with before, you will also be eligible for the 10-20 point item.
