Springtime Fair Interest Check

So after discussing to the mods regarding about player plots, I just want to put this up for interest check about this potential player plot.

Now about the player plot, I was thinking of putting up a Springtime Fair in Recolle that might take place in April or May. Basically, there will be booths, dancing, contests, and such! There's also one of the main events, namely a charity auction for the animal shelter and the Recolle Zoo and Aquarium!

I really want to put this as a player plot, log, or something, but I want to hear your thoughts about this before I should submit this.

Also, this question for the mods, but am I doing it right? Just PM me in case something's wrong.

Regardless, just comment down below if you want me to put this as a player plot! I really need it since I'm very new on player plots... T_T

It's a simple, straightforward, player plot. All that you really need is prompts for the event itself and rules for the charity auction. I think that shouldn't be especially complicated. I do not remember which of the months of April or May is the 'off' month for the app cycle off the top of my head, but I think you might shoot for an 'off month,' particularly if there are mod-plots fairly active in app month.

Other than that, I think this has some potential for fun. It's low impact and people can take it as they come.

May is entirely a spring month by most accounts. Summer begins in June, so you're safe to assume that it is available. In my opinion it should qualify.

As a rule, shoot for a week after the core plot and you're probably good to go. That usually gives enough scheduling freedom in my opinion.
true_noir: (Yes?)

You mentioned a mod-plot in May. I don't usually check ahead for calendars that much. So, I'm referring to the mod plot. It's on the 5th, right? So, the 12th or 15th sounds safe to me.

Heh, I think you get the general idea all the same. Based on what I've seen, we can expect an early mod event and a start of month Retrospec post for everyone that will probably reach captcha eventually, around mid-month. So plan with that in mind for scheduling, and you're good to go.

I've got an idea of my own, but I'm holding onto it for the moment. I kind of want the main plot a little more revealed before tossing it out. We're still in that nice spot where it's all happy, everyone's still mostly normal and the world is teetering on the brink of memory insanity. Might as well enjoy it while it lasts, right?

Right, so... if you're going American Style Cultural Festival (tm), this usually involves what is basically an even mix of cultural food, craft and informational booths, along with a 'traveling circus' style side event. I suggest including both.

-Fortune Teller: Always a treat, and a good "volunteer point" for players to participate in. Fortunes can either be silly, or potentially revealing.
-Game Booths: Dunk Tanks (since it's late spring), baloon pops, ring tosses, all of these silly carny games are common to these sorts of events and can award the usual silly prizes.
-Food: Select 1-3 cultural types that might be represented as a sort of "Heritage," and focus your food options into these general categories (e.g. German for Oktoberfest). "Americana" style foods are a popular choice if you don't want to get culturally specific (Corn Dogs, Burgers, Fries, Cotton Candy, Funnel Cakes, Kettle Corn, Saspirilla, etc...)
-Informational Booths: Hey, if this is about Recolle's heritage, maybe have a couple informational booths up, to tell the story of the city's founding in appropriately vague terms.
-Carnival Rides: Tilt-a-Whirl, Haunted House, Merry-Go-Round w/ Chocobo, Ferris Wheel, Bumper Cars...

Add a charity function as the "Main Event" with the animal shelter being one of the big sponsors, alongside Retrospec (potentially), and you've got a good list to work with.

Given that Recolle is set in America, it seemed sound. Japanese cultural events like that are similar, but usually incorporate shrine-functions that don't apply here at the present time.

And yes, I'd definitely say they're the ones to be sure about as far as Retrospec's involvement. Good luck on this one.

Considering that the setting is impacted by our respective characters' worlds and memories, yeeeeep. Wonky is a thing. And definitely get as much input as you can. The more players are on board with the idea, the more activity you get.

Auction Ideas:
-Gift Baskets donated by participating businesses: Usually available with products somewhere in the range of 50-100 dollars, these are normally auctioned for anywhere from 100-500 at charity events for the low-brow. They could be a part of the main event with the product being auctioned through a "Blind Auction" sealed bid.
-Auction, as the other respondant said, skills and available time. People donate their availability or the availability of a whole crew for a single day or weekend to do a specific job. These usually go for a lot more. Very common for social groups (Boy/Girl Scouts, Police Fraternities, Lion's Club, Masonic Lodge, big local churches, etc...)
-Special, Unique, Rare prizes: Classic old-fashioned auction. Some rich soul who loves animals a lot puts up 5-10 items from a prized collection, possibly with more with the help of others, and a standard bidding war is involved.
-"Part of the Proceeds...:" Maybe all booths donate 5-10% of their profits for the event to the animal shelter as a tax write-off.

You can use the bidding wars to be available for business-owners that want to participate on a 'higher end' and have plenty of sealed baskets/service auctions for people to buy or participate as auctioned workers. The "Purchased Items" should probably not have any sort of 'real value' to the setting. The point isn't to get that Joe DiMaggio baseball card. It's all about the fact that you just spent 10,000 dollars on a local charity benefit. Make sense?

(I will admit that this scale is getting outside of a local animal shelter, so you might consider tacking on a secondary charity, depending on how 'big' this goes.)

Hah. Nutshell version (Sorry, my thought processes and mode of speech are sometimes a little wonky.):

-Gift Baskets, low value, bid on with silent auctions. The sort of thing that could be handwaved easily as "I bought this."
-Selling and auctioning your services to do yard work, handy-work, etc... for a fee.
-Booths donate a small percentage of their profits.

For something like this, those three auctions make sense as a rule.

Yeah, sure. I'd tag in on this. Char could run a shooting gallery booth or something (I'd make my own top level for that no need to include it in the actual event info).

Far as the charity auction have you thought about what's being auctioned?

Normally I'd say date auction but we just had blind dates. Talent/skill auction maybe? Basically characters offer a service ("I'll teach you to dance so you don't look like a tool at the dances later tonight" "I'll give you a makeover" "I'll eat five whole pizzas if you pick me" etc) or their time ("I'll spend an hour with you doing whatever you want to do").
