I'm laughing so hard......... that's fair, anya weirdly needs more assholes in her life? but she'll be determined! to be a friend to him regardless so there's that. i think they're both in high school so anya's probably just. tried to be his friend there...

Malik is indeed a high schooler! When he decides to attend... well ok he's more like that kid who sits there and never participates or does his homework and probably stubbornly refuses to engage in class in any way so he gets sent to detention. #teenrebelproblems

despite his troublemaking habits + skipping class he's still around enough b/c he's still gotta pass, yo. so! i think school is a good angle for them to cross paths and/or have her try to befriend him?? idk what grade he's in, i think... sophomore. because he "just" turned 16 in december so :|a idr how school cut-off dates work

they can probably be in the same class?! Anya's a sophomore... if he gets sent to detention, she'll pout and take pictures of her notes so she can give her handwritten copies to him if he needs them?? that's not good for grades if you don't get a chance to learn anything :c
